BorderLands Gravel Is Heading to the Big Screen

And the Story Is Bigger Than the Race

There’s a moment when something shifts. When an event stops being just an event and starts becoming a story people want to tell.

That moment just happened for BorderLands Gravel.

A documentary titled “Get Your Gravel On: Gravel Racing in the Borderlands” has officially been selected for the Nogales International Film Festival, taking place May 13–17 in the twin cities of Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Sonora.

No, this is not just any screening. It’s part of something that feels almost too fitting to script.

Film on the Fence

At the heart of the festival is a signature event called Film on the Fence.

Films projected directly onto the U.S.–Mexico border wall.

Literally.

Stories shared across a line that has defined, divided, and connected communities for generations.

If you’ve spent any time around BorderLands Gravel, you already understand why this matters.

It’s about the tension and beauty of the borderlands.

Now, that same story is being told through film, in the exact landscape that inspired it.

From Gravel Roads to Cultural Storytelling

BorderLands Gravel was built on a simple idea: What if a race could feel like an experience people couldn’t get anywhere else?

Not just another gravel course. Not just another start line. But something immersive. Something layered.

For BorderLands Gravel, riders don’t just show up to race. They show up to understand a place, to ride along the border wall, pass through historic corridors like the Geronimo Trail, and experience the remoteness that defines this region.

And whether they realize it or not, they become part of the story.

That’s what makes this film selection significant.

Validation. This event is worth documenting. Worth sharing.

Worth putting in front of an audience that may have never even considered gravel cycling, but understands the power of story.

Why This Matters for BorderLands Gravel

There’s a tendency in event marketing to focus on the obvious metrics.

Registrations. Sponsorships. Finish lines. Those things matter.

But moments like this? They operate on a different level. This is awareness in its most powerful form.

What This Means Going Forward

We’ve talked before about how events like BorderLands Gravel help put places like Douglas on the map, not just as a race destination, but as a place worth experiencing.

This film does the same thing, just on a different stage. And maybe to a different audience.

People who might never sign up for a race, but now understand why someone would.

The Invitation

If you’ve already signed up for BorderLands Gravel, this should reinforce something you probably already feel. This race is different.

And if you’re still on the fence. This is your glimpse into what makes this event different.

When a story is strong enough to make it onto a film screen, especially one projected onto the border itself, it’s probably worth experiencing firsthand.
