Train for the Frontera: BorderLands Gravel Coaching Plans Are Here

You don’t show up to the Arizona borderlands hoping to “wing it.” The terrain out here is raw, wild, and beautiful. And it demands respect. Long climbs, relentless sun, and sweeping high desert views. Whether you’re racing 39, 65, or 94 miles, you’re going to need more than just grit. You’ll need a plan.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Jason Tullous of Tenac Championship Coaching to develop three free training plans tailored for each BorderLands Gravel course: Short (39 miles), Medium (65 miles), and Long (94 miles). These 12-week plans are your roadmap to race day, blending physical prep, mental focus, and nutritional strategy so you can roll up to the start line ready to give it everything.

Meet Your Coach: Jason Tullous

Jason knows this landscape. As a former professional cyclist and world champion, he’s spent decades turning high-performance theory into real-world results. He founded Tenac Championship Coaching to help athletes of all levels pursue their own version of excellence. His coaching isn’t just about watts and heart rate zones. It’s about cultivating awareness, confidence, and a mindset that can push through anything the desert throws your way.

His motto? #BeAChampion. That means showing up prepared, both physically and mentally, and honoring the details that build toward big goals. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being ready.

Three Courses, Three Paths to Get There

Whether you’re a seasoned racer gunning for the podium or an adventure-seeker crossing your first finish line, there’s a plan designed for you:

  • The Short Course Plan (39 miles): Ideal for those new to gravel or building back fitness. Focuses on endurance, handling, and race-day confidence.

  • The Medium Course Plan (65 miles): A balance of stamina, strength, and speed. For riders who want to push their limits and ride strong start to finish.

  • The Long Course Plan (94 miles): For those ready to take on our most challenging route through the heart of the borderlands. Demands discipline, resilience, and serious saddle time.

How do you get access to these plans? When you register for the upcoming BorderLands Gravel race, you’ll receive a link with your training plan. If you’ve already registered and want a plan, drop an email to ride@borderlandsgravel.com and we’ll send it to you.
